PayPal
This program started during the pandemic with PayPal's teams in Europe, and the results were strong enough that PayPal's US headquarters asked us to bring it to PayPal Worldwide, ultimately reaching employees across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. MLC won an award in the "Learning and Development" category for that program.
Die Pandemie hat eine Herausforderung offenbart
Due to the pandemic, PayPal moved roughly 24,000 employees to remote work almost overnight, just as a surge in online shopping increased the workload across the business. Sponsored by PayPal's Thrive Chapter employee support network, PayPal was looking for a training program that would help employees remain positive and give them tools to manage their mental wellbeing and anxiety during a difficult situation.
Wie wir PayPal weltweit unterstützt haben
The resilience program ran over eight consecutive weeks, with one live one-hour session per week.
A different theme was covered each week, from the definition of resilience to understanding optimism, working through anxiety, identifying distorted thoughts ("Mind Monsters") and learning how to tame them, and building a personal action plan. To reach PayPal's global workforce across time zones, the program was delivered separately for Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific, running three times in total with up to around 100 participants per live session, and open enrollment for all employees.
Sessions were delivered in English, with recordings available on demand for employees unable to attend live.
Wie sind wir vorgegangen?
There was homework between sessions. Employees received a learning journal to take notes and define their personal action plan, while managers had a separate journal covering both their own action plan and how to build resilience within their teams. Team challenges kept motivation high throughout the eight weeks, and the format proved successful enough to run three times across PayPal's global regions.
Vorteile für PayPal weltweit
The program helped keep people motivated and engaged, and gave everyone practical action plans to make the best of a difficult period. It scaled successfully across three global regions and gave PayPal a repeatable resilience capability it could keep using well beyond the initial rollout.
